2010.01.16: Telephone Conversation with Eliona Bernard, Cap Haitien

We were able to contact Pastor Eliona Bernard, President of Concordia Theological Seminaty-Haiti, this morning. Our conversation was cut off after just a couple of minutes, as the phones are still quite flakey. He had the following things to say:

Although Cap Hatien was shaken, and there is damage, it is nothing like Port au Prince.
There is no certainty concerning how many are dead.
Everyone is overcome by shock, weariness, deep sorrow.
They have the sense that this problem is way over their heads-no one knows what even to begin to do.
There are many people now streaming from PAP-there's no place for them to live. Everyone wants to help them in some way, but they have no means to do so.

Dear Christians, let our response be rapid and long-lasting, for there is a long road ahead.
